I want to make a difference for the people of Burma
by making a tax-deductible donation
to one of the projects of
Burma Humanitarian Mission:
BACKPACK MEDICS
Backpack medics are teams of 3-5 medics who live and travel among isolated villages and displaced persons in the conflict zones of eastern and northern Burma. Each team provides medical care and community health services to roughly 2,000 people and up to a dozen villages or camps. The medics assist the people in overcoming malaria, dysentery and pneumonia - illnesses with high mortality rates accentuated by their impoverished conditions. Where the medics operate, malaria, dysentery and child mortality rates have been reduced by at least 50%. Despite changes in Burma, the regime provides no health care to these isolated people - the urgency of backpack medics remains high. Your donation saves lives.
BURMA HUMANITARIAN MISSION GENERAL FUND
The General Fund supports the on-going operations of our organization as well as smaller projects that don't have the volunteer support in the US to do their own fundraising. Some of the projects we support include small schools in Burma and in refugee camps, and emergent needs for the Backpack Medics, such as boats for transportation of medicine. If there's ever a surplus, the funds will support our larger programs that have not received enough designated support. Your donation allows for focused support where it is most needed and for BHM to continue to operate.
MINMAHAW SCHOOL
Minmahaw School on the Thai/Burma border educates migrant and refugee youth from Burma, ages 17-23. Residential students have a rare opportunity to study at an 11-12th grade level, while also focusing on vocational education classes. Minmahaw's mission is to educate students so they can pursue further education, pass the GED, then possibly go on to a University in S.E. Asia. In addition, offering vocational courses for those who have little opportunity for further study increases their possibility of finding work. The main theme of the students lives' is to take their skills to work towards a Burma where freedom and democracy thrive again. Your donation makes the goal of higher education possible for a young man or woman from Burma.
You can make a donation to Minmahaw School by donating through Paypal, or better yet! Right now an anoynmous donor has offered to match up to $10,000 in donations made through Kindest.
MYANMAR MOBILE EDUCATION
MyME provides education via mobile classrooms to children in Myanmar (Burma) who've been compelled into indentured servitude at teashop restaurants where they're forced to work long hours every day in order to sustain their families. The mobile classrooms provide these children an opportunity to learn basic literacy, math and computer skills in a safe environment where they can gain self-confidence and develop critical thinking skills through innovative, interactive instruction. Your donation gives a child the hope of a better future.
KIRANA PRODUCTIONS
Kirana Productions empowers human rights advocacy and support through documentary filmmaking and workshops built around those films. Through strong character development and powerful story-telling, director Jeanne Marie Hallacy’s films serve as essential tools for positive change. In addition to showcasing her films at international festivals, Hallacy’s team organizes extensive speaking tours for each film, engaging audiences in discussions at screenings in public venues, universities and events in partnership with non-governmental organizations working on the issues highlighted in the films. Your donation is a powerful vehicle for advocacy for democracy and human rights in Burma.
MYANMAR CENTER FOR CIVIC LEADERSHIP
MCCL Empowers underrepresented communities in Myanmar through trainings, workshops, classes, and outreach programs. Encourages individual and community leadership providing direct benefit to communities. This model merges theory with action to prepare leaders to effect positive change. Your donation empowers women and underrepresented people.
SMILE EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION
SEDF promotes freedom of religion and belief, builds interfaith harmony, and transforms intercommunal conflict throughout Myanmar. They create a diverse society by building active citizenship networks, investing in youth leadership, fostering reconciliation and social cohesion among diverse communities, and facilitating critical thinking, dialogue and skill building. This approach is implemented through informal education, leadership programs for youth, civil society organization development, and engaging community and faith leaders. Your donation will support Myanmar in becoming a place where freedom of religion and belief and religious pluralism are possible and ethnic and religious minorities are embraced within their communities.
