Personal Stories, Powerful Truths
Kirana Productions is an award-winning film collective dedicated to telling urgent, deeply personal stories that shine a light on injustice, resilience, and the fight for human dignity.
Rather than generalizing the experience of the people of Burma, Kirana's films focus on individual lives, those too often ignored or silenced. Their work captures voices that matter: survivors, activists, and everyday people navigating extraordinary challenges. In doing so, they offer audiences a rare, human-centered lens on the country’s freedom movement and the ongoing struggle for equality.
Kirana’s films screen at film festivals around the world. Their film tours include events at colleges and universities and have included screenings at the United Nations and at the US Capitol.
Stories That Inspire Justice and Change
This Kind of Love follows Burmese human rights and LGBTQ+ activist Aung Myo Min as he returns to Burma after 24 years in exile. Through Myo’s bold and compassionate activism, the film explores what it means to fight for equality—for children, ethnic minorities, and queer communities—in a nation emerging from dictatorship.
Mother, Daughter, Sister tells the powerful stories of women from Burma’s ethnic communities, including the Rohingya and Kachin, who have survived the military’s use of rape as a weapon of war. Through intimate interviews and community testimonies, the film confronts sexual violence and impunity head-on, calling for justice and systemic change.
Padauk: Myanmar Spring takes the viewer to the streets of Burma during the heady days following the February 2021 military coup. Through Nant—a young, first-time protester—we meet three human rights activists whose lives have been turned upside down by the coup. As the protests continue, Nant comes to understand the truth of a brutal regime that has continued to wage war against its own people for decades.
Kirana’s films are more than documentaries—they are calls to action. They preserve memory, ignite empathy, and demand justice.
By supporting Kirana Productions, you help ensure that the voices of Burma’s people are not only heard, but believed, honored, and amplified. Together, through story and service, we build a future rooted in dignity, courage, and hope.
